GPhC announces new Chair of Fitness to Practise Committee

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has announced the appointment of Michael Caplan QC as Chair of the Fitness to Practise Committee with effect from 20 December 2016.

Michael Caplan QC was a senior partner at the international law firm Kingsley Napley for 30 years until his retirement in April, where he remains a consultant. He is one of the few solicitors to have been appointed Queen’s Counsel. He has extensive experience in the regulatory and criminal practice areas and has been engaged in a number of high-profile cases.

Council agrees to changes to CPD framework

Council agreed at its 8 December meeting to amend the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework to reflect a new approach to how CPD records are called for review. 

We received over 2,200 responses to its consultation on sampling CPD records, the most responses it has ever received to a consultation, and a significant majority of respondents supported the proposed changes.

We are consulting on revised threshold criteria

Today we launched a consultation on revised threshold criteria.

We have the power to investigate concerns about pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.  

The threshold criteria are used by decision-makers within the GPhC, who are involved in investigating concerns, to decide whether a case should be referred to the investigating committee.

GPhC consults on religion, personal values and beliefs in pharmacy practice

The GPhC today launched a consultation on religion, personal values and beliefs in delivering person-centred care in pharmacy.   

The consultation asks about the wording on personal values and beliefs in the new standards for pharmacy professionals, due to come into effect in 2017 and about the guidance on the behaviours expected of pharmacy professionals in applying the standards.
