GPhC responds to launch of safer medicines initiative

The GPhC issued the following statement in response to the announcement by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt regarding the launch of an initiative focused on reducing prescribing and medication errors:

‘The GPhC welcomes this initiative to explore ways to improve medication safety still further. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play a vital role not only in ensuring the safe supply of medicines, but also in working with patients, carers and other healthcare professionals to guard against a range of medication-related risks, including those to do with prescribing.

GPhC responds to release of Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care

The Scottish Government today published a refreshed strategy for pharmacy in Scotland called Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care:  A Strategy for Scotland.  Responding to the publication, Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the GPhC, said:

“We welcome the publication of Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care, and support its goals for further improvements to the health and care of patients in Scotland.

Regulators publish joint statement on conflicts of interest

The General Pharmaceutical Council and the other eight regulators of health and care professionals have signed a joint statement, which sets out what is expected of all healthcare professionals in relation to avoiding, declaring and managing conflicts of interest across all healthcare settings.

The statement is intended to support each regulator’s professional standards, codes and guidance, which the statement says “should be the overriding consideration for professionals.”
